Tour of the United Arab Emirates: The sprinters caught this Friday, Romain Bardet stayed warm

Mathias Vacek (Gazprom – Rusvelo), Paul Lapeira (AG2R Citroën Team), Dmitry Strakhov (Gazprom – Rusvelo), Alessandro Tonelli (Bardiani-CSF-Faizanè) and Pavel Kochetkov (Gazprom – Rusvelo) played a nasty trick on the sprinters Friday, during the 6th and penultimate stage of the Tour of the United Arab Emirates, which is led around Dubai.

A 180-kilometer stage without any difficulties, made for sprinters. However, the latter were caught by the five breakaways, who broke away from the opening kilometers of the stage and managed to resist the return of the peloton before battling for victory.

The last word finally went to young Czech Mathias Vacek (Gazprom – RusVelo), who won ahead of Frenchman Paul Lapeira (AG2R Citroën Team) and Russian Dmitry Strakhov (Gazprom – RusVelo). Auvergnat’s Romain Bardet landed in the heart of the peloton, which crossed the finish line 15 seconds after the winner.

Generally no change. Slovenia’s Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) remains the leader. He is four seconds ahead of second place, Italy’s Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) and 14 ahead of third, Russia’s Aleksandr Vlasov (BORA – Hansgrohe). Romain Bardet is 11th overall, 43 seconds back.

From now on, the ultimate battle for the final victory will take place this Saturday on the slopes of Jebel Hafeet (10.9 km, at an average of 6.8%), where the arrival of the 7th and final stage of this tour will be judged in United Arab Emirates 2022.
